William M. Wind, Jr., MD, FAAOS
My surgical interests include ligament (ACL) reconstruction and meniscal work in the knee and rotator cuff, and instability in the shoulder. As director of the WNY Cartilage Restoration Center, I have a particular interest in knee cartilage preservation and restoration. The latest surgical technical advances and innovative research has allowed the center to provide the highest quality care for patients with injury and aging of the knee’s articular cartilage.
Although most of my practice involves care of people of all ages and skill levels, another part of my practice I truly enjoy is the sports medicine aspect where I care for several professional, collegiate and high school teams. I work alongside athletic trainers and physical therapists in the care of these athletes both in the training room and on the sideline.
My practice philosophy, as is life, is to treat people how my family and I would like to be treated. I strive effortlessly to provide my patients with the best level of care they can receive. I believe this is accomplished first by being compassionate, caring and respectful of my patients and their injuries/pain. I recognize that each patient is different. They have different goals, aspirations and responsibilities in life. I take pride in working with my patients on an individual basis, listening to them to understand their specific situation and working with them to ensure the most appropriate treatment. I strive to clearly communicate and educate my patients on their condition, outline a mutually agreed upon treatment plan, which will facilitate a quicker recovery. (Giving them the ability to better care for themselves and facilitate a quicker recovery). I treat all of my patients with a level of urgency, which has been instilled in my practice throughout my sports medicine interest and involvement with professional and collegiate athletic teams. My goal with each patient is to provide rapid access for evaluation of their injury or pain. Establishing a timely diagnosis, educating patients on the anatomy and cause of their injury and formulating a patient-specific treatment plan is the cornerstone of my practice.
I am a surgeon; however, many of the injuries I treat do not require surgery. When conservative treatment is no longer an option and surgery is recommended, I am confident that my abilities and indications are sound and will result in exceptional outcomes for my patient. My goal is to ultimately return my patients to a healthy, active lifestyle, whether that be in sports, work or home life. To ensure I am doing just that, I track my patients’ wellness throughout their treatment and can compare my patients’ results to other orthopaedic surgeons nationally and see how the outcomes of treatment I offer my patients consistently exceed others.
I also believe continuing to further my own education in my field is of paramount importance in providing the level of care I strive to offer my patients. I have traveled the world, gaining knowledge and expertise that I have been able to bring back to Buffalo for my patients.
